The Long Final

Today sees the running of the long final – in fact the longest ever run final in the history of the world championships. It will be a whooping 18.2 km for the men, with 550 hm, and can you believe that the winning time is expected to be 90 minutes.

Unfortunately for the athletes, the weather is hot and the mercury is climbing – they expect more than 35 degrees today, but our dude, Felix “ever cool” Breitschädel is looking forward to the challenge, although he is expecting to die!

The first runner starts at 9:31 and Felix will go bounding into the forest at 10:05, about 1/3 into the race. The map is the same as the sprint area, and it will also be used in the relay, so we know how the area more or less is. Additionally we did the model event here, so hopefully there will be no surprises in store for us.

Favourites are the ever green Simone “who else” Niggli and Valentin “lets hope he doesn’t blow” Novikov, as well as the young swiss boys. It will be an interesting race.

More information will follow,

Regards from a heat ridden Kiev,

Richard.
